This is an intimate small group experience led by the wife of the head priest of Gionji, a temple in Tokyo's Chofu City with more than 1000 years of history. Blend different kinds of incense to make your favorite scent and create an omamori bag that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. You can either make one for yourself, or for someone you love and give it to them as a heartfelt gift.

1. Arrive at Gionji Temple in Chofu City, Tokyo, about 15 minutes walk from Fuda Station on the Keio Line. After meeting your instructor, offer prayers at the main hall of the temple. (10 min)

2. Head to the tea house. (5 min)

3. Learn about the process and choose your omamori bag. There are several different kinds of omamori you can make a pick from. Choose in which area you want to have god’s blessing from “love relationship,” “health and well-being,” “fertility and safe delivery,” “academic achievement,” “general luck.” Since Gionji is known as “a matchmaking temple,” love relationship is the go-to choice. There is also one for kids. (10 min)

4. Learn how to blend incense from the instructor. (10 min)

5. Choose your favorite scents and blend them together to make your original scented bag. (15 min)

1. Make your way to Moegiya, a community space reusing a quaint Japanese-style house, located near Tsutsujigaoka Station on the Keio Line. Upon arrival, meet your instructor who is the fifth generation chief chef of Imakiya, a wagashi shop in Tokyo with more than 100 years of history. (5 min)

2. Learn about the overall process and basic techniques of wagashi making. (10 min)

3. After watching the instructor’s demonstration, it’s time for you to work on your first piece of nerikiri. Form the colored dough into a flower or other nature-inspired shape by hand, then carefully add lines and perfect the shape with special tools. (15 min)

4. Try a different shape for your second nerikiri. (15 min)

As daruma and fabrics are two of Chofu’s main specialties, this makes a perfect souvenir of your visit to the city. While waiting for the glue to dry, engage in fun little daruma-themed games or take pictures with a daruma mask on your head. Tea and Daruma Senbei(rice crackers) will also be served at this time. This is a great way to get a quick hands-on experience of Japanese culture while putting your creativity to work.

1.Meet your instructor at the daruma shop Daru-chan No Ouchi, near the entrance of Jindaiji Temple.(10 min)

2.Choose a fabric. This is probably the toughest, yet most fun part of the process. There are so many beautiful fabrics to choose from that you may have a hard time picking just one.(5 min)

3.Write your wishes on the body of the daruma and paint daruma’s face on the fabric.(10 min)

4.Cut the fabric into various-sized pieces depending on the print and pattern, and paste them onto the daruma’s body. Let your imagination run wild. Maybe a masterpiece is in the making! (30 min)

5.Leave the glue to dry. Meanwhile, engage in fun daruma-themed games and take pictures while enjoying some Japanese tea and daruma senbei.(15 min)

1.Meet your instructor at the daruma shop Daru-chan No Ouchi, located near the entrance of Jindaiji Temple, and learn about the process.(10 min)

2.Choose the shape of your daruma(round-shaped or cat-shaped), as well as a cloth for the zabuton cushion.(5 min)

3.Color the finger-sized daruma doll(2 cm/0.8 in), and paint a face onto it. Each color of daruma has its own meaning, so carefully choose one that fits your wishes the best. Feel free to write down your wishes on its body if you like. Daruma can also be varnished at your request.(30 min)

4.Make a mini zabuton cushion on which you can place your daruma.(15 min)
