The only place in Osaka where you can make traditional Japanese Washi paper from raw materials. Enjoy making and designing traditional Japanese paper using dried, pressed seasonal flowers and leaves that can be made into a set of postcards, table-mat, wraparound lampshade or tapestry panel. Handmade Japanese Washi paper is the perfect souvenir or gift from Japan!

Workshops are available on Wednesdays & Thursdays at 2:00pm.

In this workshop you can make paper from raw materials, and add designs using dried, pressed flowers and leaves (such as cherry blossoms and maple leaves) as well as Washi paper cut outs.
From start to finish, the workshop takes approximately 60 minutes – making the paper, designing, drying and removing water and heat sealing. After making your Washi paper, you can take your take your newly made paper home.
You can also select the option of an additional hour of unlimited paper making - so once you have perfected the way to make Washi paper, you can set to work making and designing more Japanese Washi paper for yourself or for gifts/souvenirs for friends or family.

Following tea making, you will make your own Goshuincho (original washi notebook) which are used to collect the calligraphy seals and stamps when visiting temples and shrines in Japan ... The tour will start by choosing your preferred green tea and unique mug to prepare the tea in, before making fresh sencha green tea and enjoying it with a slice of breakfast toast at a local favourite cafe. Following tea making, you will make your own Goshuincho (original washi notebook) which are used to collect the calligraphy seals and stamps when visiting temples and shrines in Japan. Following this you will go on a short walk to a local favourite shrine where you will learn about the history of shrines and temples in Japan, how to correctly pay your respects as well as receive your first calligraphy seal in your new Goshuin book!

The tour will also end in the longest shopping arcade in Japan. After the tour you can explore the 2.6km long shopping arcade with over 600 stalls and all the Japanese street-food you could want!

Starting from Minami-morimachi Station (Tanimachi Line on subway or Sakaisuji Line on Hankyu Line, Exit 4B, outside on street level) we will take a short walk to a local favourite cafe where you will select a green tea of your choice, a unique mug to prepare the tea in before making and enjoying the tea yourself. Following this you will make your own Goshuin (original washi notebook) which are used to collect the calligraphy seals and stamps when visiting temples and shrines in Japan. After finishing making your Goshuin, we will take a short walk to a local shrine where you will learn about the history of shrines and temples in Japan, how to correctly pay your respects, cas well as receive your first calligraphy seal in your new Goshuin book! At the shrine, a priest will stamp the intricately carved seal of the shrine your book and then will inscribe the name, the date of your visit, and any additional prayers or symbols that the location is famous for - in traditional Japanese calligraphy. This is the ultimate souvenir from Japan, and a unique way to chronicle your journey!

The tea making and workshop will take approximately 2 hours.
