This day trip from Tokyo celebrates some of the most popular autumn leaves viewing spots in Niigata Prefecture from both the ground and the air! Enjoy breathtaking autumnal views at the edges of Lake Daigenta and Lake Futai before taking to the skies on the Tashiro Ropeway and Naeba Dragondola. A Bento lunchbox is served on the bus which you can enjoy as you watch the scenery from the window.

With just a handful of dates through October and early November, places are limited so make sure to secure your seat!

The tour leaves Tokyo for Niigata Prefecture heading to the first stop on the itinerary, the city of Minamiuonoma for a spot of shopping. The city is surrounded by stunning mountains and beautiful countryside and visitors get a real sense of pure Japan here. As a result, its produce is second to none and especially its Koshihikari rice, considered the best quality rice available in Japan. Make sure you take home a small bag of it with you.

Two popular lakes for autumn leaves viewing is up next. First off is Lake Daigenta, a popular autumn spot that attracts photographers from all over Japan when the surrounding mountains, tinged in reds, greens, yellows and golds, reflect off the surface of the lake. A quirky feature of this lake is the concrete arch dam, the oldest of its kind in Japan. Second is the mysterious Lake Futai where the color of the water changes according to the weather and is therefore popular as a filming location.

To save time for more sightseeing, a lunch box will be served on the bus. Two kinds are on offer and you will be asked to choose at the time of booking. The choices are:

1. "Kani-don Bento" (lunch box with 2 crab meat balls)
2. "Kuromabushi Bento" (seasoned white rice topped with nori seaweed, tempura and vegetables)

Having admired the wonderful scenery at ground level, it’s time to appreciate it from the skies boarding not one but two ropeways. Start off by riding the Tashiro Ropeway for 10 minutes where you can enjoy the autumnal landscape and Lake Futai up to a height of 230m. After a brief walk to Naeba, enjoy the Naeba Dragondola, Japan’s longest gondola at 5,481m that connects Naeba to the Tashiro Kogen highlands. The 25 minute journey takes you up to the mountain top, where the hillsides are covered in autumn leaves and then down to the Kiyotsu river.

The tour ends after the Dragondola ride and the bus heads back to Tokyo taking a scenic route through the Mikuni Pass, where you can catch another glimpse of the autumn colors from the rows of maple trees along the road. Estimated arrival in Tokyo is 19:00.

After, stroll around the Village of Dried Persimmons "Korogaki no Sato", and make a stop at the restaurant Shingenyakata for a delicious lunch of Matsuzaka roast beef and local specialty "Hoto" hot-pot.
After lunch, check out Arakurayama Sengen Park, the famous photo-spot where you can see the 5-story red Chureito pagoda and Mt. Fuji at the same time. Then, spend some time discovering scenic fall foliage at Lake Kawaguchi. The last destination is Sagami Lake Resort Pleasure Forest, where you will experience the dream-like world of the illumination show.

After an 8:00 am pick-up from the Gracery Hotel or an 8:20 am pick-up from the Shinjuku Washington Hotel in Tokyo, you’ll travel by coach to Yamanashi Prefecture. Known as a wine-making region, the prefecture harvests high-quality grapes. Sip on Japanese wine at the Chateau Katsunuma winery, and browse for bottles to buy and take home during your half-hour visit.

Your next stop is the city of Enzan. Stroll around the Village of Dried Persimmons, Korogaki no Sato, for around 30 minutes, and see the persimmons strung together like beads and hung like curtains as they dry in the sun.

Walk onward to Shingenyakata restaurant for a lunch of matsuzaka roast beef and the local hearty "Hoto" hot-pot, made with miso soup, thick noodles and seasonal vegetables. For those who cannot eat beef, an alternative meal can also be prepared (please specify your preference in the "Special Requirements" field at the time of booking, and also write what kind of food you can eat. Please not that this alternative arrangement cannot be made on the day of the tour).

After the 1-hour lunch break, you’ll travel to Arakurayama Sengen Park to admire the views of Mt. Fuji together with the famous red-lacquered, 5-storey Chureito pagoda and a beautiful display of autumn foliage. The 30-minute walk to the vantage point takes 400 uphill steps, but once at the top, you’ll have over an hour to relax and enjoy the sights.

Continue to Lake Kawaguchi for more vistas of Mt. Fuji amid a backdrop of fall colors.

Then, head to Sagami Lake Resort Pleasure Forest to see the Sagamiko Illumillion lights display. The display is the largest of its kind in the Kanto region, showcasing around 6 million lights.

After 1 hour strolling at there, you’ll travel back to the starting point in Tokyo’s Shinjuku area. Arrival is expected at around 19:00.

There are about 80 types of cherry trees of a total of approximately 2,600 cherry trees that fill Hirosaki Park. This includes the Yoshino cherry tree, which is said to be Japan's oldest. Hirosaki Park is one of Japan's leading cherry blossom viewing sites. Visitors are especially encouraged to celebrate the scene around the end of April. In this tour that is led by a local guide, the most beautiful cherry blossoms in the park will be introduced. You will also explore other Hirosaki attractions scattered around the park.

Please note: This seasonal tour runs annually between April and May. The dates are subject to change.

After leaving the designated departure location, the tour will start by heading to the southern part of Hirosaki Park. Hirosaki was once famous for having the castle of the Tsugaru clan, but during the Meiji era, it became also known for its western-style buildings.
Aside from the natural sites, you will also tour sites where, historically, foreign teachers had come and learn about their teachings. It is here that Christianity was originally promoted in Japan. Western culture can be further seen in the European building styles on display. This unique style was born from the cultural enlightenment that Japan experienced during this time.
After exploring the mansions and other structures, you will enjoy the main event of the tour, the cherry blossoms in Hirosaki Park.
The blossoms are scattered across various places in Hirosaki Park and visited by two million people each cherry blossom season. Your guide will take you through the trees, stopping at the breathtaking vantage points.
After the cherry blossom viewing, you will visit the merchant and samurai houses from the Edo period that remain in the northern part of the Hirosaki park. The attractions in this area are said to have been built 250 years or more ago by a wealthy merchant. You can still go in this building, known as "Ishiba's Residence," and see a merchant's home and shop from a long, long time ago. The store has the appearance of a high-class establishment, but with a dirt floor and feelings of history of the time that has gone by.
Towards the end of the tour, you will visit the Tsugaruhan Neputa village. Here, at the Hirosaki Neputa exhibition, you’ll see demonstrations and get to experience the Tsugaru people’s crafts, live music and more, such as the Tsugaru shamisen. An all-around enjoyable experience of traditional culture of the Tsugaru people.
Finally, you’ll have a light snack and discuss all the things you’ve experienced during your charming day in Hirosaki.
